The Hurricane Region History
The Hurricane Region PCA was formed in 1995 when it was recognized the existing Carolinas Region, which covered all of North Carolina and a portion of South Carolina, was too large geographically to effectively represent and communicate with all members. Most of the Region activities at the time took place in the Charlotte area and many members to the east, and particularly on the coast, felt the need for a more local representation and so led the charge for the formation of the new Region.
PCA therefore decided to set the eastern boundary of the Carolina Region along a north-south line roughly extending from Roxboro to the north to Rockingham in the south. All of North Carolina, and a portion of South Carolina, to the east of this line became the Hurricane Region. The original charter for the new Region was delivered on September 19, 1995 by Dave Lumpkin, the Zone 3 Representative and a member of Carolinas Region, at a ceremony which took place at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Raleigh. The Charter was signed by the PCA President and Secretary, Judith A. Boles and Robert A. Miller, respectively.
The original boundary of the Hurricane Region also included a portion of the northern South Carolina coast. In a drive to create a more local representation for Club members, it was agreed these South Carolina counties would merge with the existing Palmetto Region in two phases spanning 2009 and 2011. The end result is the current configuration of the Hurricane Region which includes all or portions of 53 North Carolina counties east of the dividing line with the Carolinas Region.

From small beginnings, the Hurricane Region celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020 and now includes over 1,000 primary members, a fair number of whom have been with the Region since its inception. We are always happy welcome new members, so if you are interested in joining the Porsche Club of America, you can do so HERE.
Weekly “Kaffeeklatch” gatherings are held on Saturday mornings in Raleigh, New Bern, and Wilmington, and a monthly Region dinner takes place in Cary. Among the annual events the Region holds are a Holiday Party, a Spring Charity Concours, Oktoberfest. Other Region outings include a wide range of social events like wine tours, wine tastings, weekend drives to the mountains and coast, BBQ runs, and AutoX events.
Members of the Hurricane Region take pride in the PCA motto – “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people” and this together with traditional North Carolina hospitality make for an active and friendly group which loves to get in their cars and drive our beautiful state. |
